ive heard so many differing opinions regarding the coral beauty dwarf angelfish and its reef compatiblity. i was wondering if those with personal expierence with the fish could let me know how it has fared in there reef environments and whether it has caused any harm to corals etc.
it is a truly beautiful fish and would be a grand addition to my up and coming reef in 6 months or so if feedback from this post is good
thanks

Coral Beauty's like most dwaft angels can be somewhat hit or miss. Most of the time they are fine but the occasional one can be a problem.

I currently have a CB and except for a single isolated nip I have had no problems. My pre-purchase investigation led me to believe that odds are on your side but it is a difinite crap shoot.

As the above post said, the odds are in your favor with this species. I would still avoid open brains, candy cains, etc.

i have one.. had corals prior to adding him.. at first when i got it, it kept bothering my feather duster... got pretty worried, but in the end they're both fine.. in regards to adding coral... my last batch of corals, the coral beauty nipped my heliofungia and sarcophyton to death.. he hasn't really bothered my other lps like hammer, cup coral, caulastrea or other soft corals like zo's etc... def a nipper..likes to nip at things, but most of my corals are used to him.. and he's used to the corals now that he just nips on the live rock.

It's the only Centropyge I recommend with confidence for a reef tank. But I see some others have had mixed results.

in regard to a cb''s stocking order should it be added last or doesnt it really matter?. i intend to keep 1 firefish, 1 baggai cardinal, 1 false percula clown and the coral beauty. is this also over stocking for a 70 g reef tank?
thanks for the good replys ;)

I would add it last or at least after the firefish and banngai.

That is a very nice assortment of fish for a 70 gal. Certainly not overstocking. You may want to think about adding two false percs at once, since they are easy to pair if you just buy two small ones from the same tank, but more troublesome to pair if one is established. I prefer clownfish in pairs.

def add it last.. and if possible.. after you have all corals.. that way, you can at least let your coral acclimate better and become more hardier in case the CB starts to nip at it... that will ensure the coral survives the CB's initiall nipping phase..

To the original poster. The safest angel in a reef by a wide margin is C. argi for the most part. You can stock one of those and cut your chances down of any problems. However I'd still recommend a coral beauty with full confidence.

I don't think you could call them reef safe, although many people do keep them in reefs. I had one once for several years that never bothered anything, and died of apparent old age. My son bought one for his reef that nipped from day one. You never know for sure with these guys until you try one.

Yah, coral beauties while hit or miss, probably would be the single safest bet on any type of dwarf angel in a reef tank.

But hey someone in the photo forum showed pictures of his Imperator in a reef tank and claims it hasn't nipped at any of his stuff :)

You mean like this? :D This is my imperator about 8 months ago. He's a bit larger now, and and starting to change.

C. argi is the safest dwarf angel.

Imperators are cool! I love the adult coloration. Very colorful. I'm nervous about putting one in a reef though, but I'm a old timer and hard headed!
