One of my Maxima clams continually produces a slime or mucas out of the base.. The clam seems to be very happy, its mantle is always fully extended... Its been producing this slime for about 3 months now, I'm just curious if anyone knows what it is and why it is producing it...

Thanks Chris

Not the fist time I heard it on the broad, and I experience it myself on my clams. My clam are doing well (fingers X'ed), and it does not seem to be an issue.

Guess: I think it my be some type of acid slime to help it bore a hole on the rock :?

I was under the impression that the croceas were the clams that bore into the rock not the maximas. If it is expading and the mantle looks healthy but retracts and reacts when you move something over it then it should be fine.
