I have a 175watt halide that i installed into my existing canopy. The problem is that it sits only about 4 inches from the surface of the water. Usually things are fine but there is a lot of evaporation from the heat and when the overall tank water lvl gets low, the water returning from the hang on the back filter system makes small spashes and sometimes gets small drops on the halide bulb itself. My question is will the bulb exploded from the salt water that splashes up on it and drys?
Thanks

The answer is yes and no. It is possible but I have splashed many very hot bulns myself with out cracking one. You get less heat in the tank and better spread if you move it up a few inchs, why not?

If it's not possible to move it, I strongly suggest toping off when the halides are off and have cooled. Trust me from experience: an exploding halide is not fun! And it can happen with just a few drops, so I wouldn't tempt fate repeatedly.

It would be hard for me to move it up more without getting a whole new canopy. I have already moded it so it sits 2 inches higher but i cant raise it any more with out it looking like its on stilts. What do u mean by topping off? and where can i get a spash gaurd?
Thanks for the quick replies 8)
