It's not because it's summer. At RC a topic doesn't even stay on the front page for a day. Here, I come back after a 4 day weekend and I see the same topics. What gives people? Too much sump time? Maybe everyone here who goes there should get a certain allotted number of sump posts per every post top side. Maybe you get a few more sump post allotments if you help out in the newbie forum. :P Whatdya think Len? :D

This should be a sump post, JimM. :P

Every board has its own characteristics. Everyone has its own taste.

Well, for us, summer has an effect. Some don't, but most indoor hobbies do. Reefs.org is a much older community as well, which I believe has some effect on traffic patterns.

I would love for people who post in the Sump to post topside as well. Feel free to help me out there ;)

Older as in been around longer, or the average age of it's members?
It does have a nicer feel over here. :D

BTW, I'm not sure what you're seeing. I look away from the forum for a day and there's posts in the General Discussion forum that go almost to the end of page 2. Weekends are slow, but during the week there's a good amount of traffic.

Both :)

I agree there is a more personal feel here, but I'm probably biased ;) We've always been slow in the summer, but our stats indicates it's been picking up any given month this year compared to last year. More participation is obviously welcomed, and rest assured the admins are working on site improvements during our slow season. We want to continue to grow, but without losing our identity. Quantity is nice, but quality counts for something too :P

I agree, and the quality is appreciated.

Shane, I always push this site over all others when I talk to other reefers or fish keepers. :D It's because of the quality of this site, and the likeable people here that I want to see it do well.

I prefer this forum because I can keep up with the posts. I don't read everything, but at least I can skim every topic to see if I want to read it. RC the only forum I read is the reef fish one, and then I just skim the first page under new and general there. I only get to check a couple times a day, and 6+ pages of new posts a day (if not more) is just too much.

The people here have been friendly, knowledgable, and willing to help. Good enough for me :)

I agree.. not much going on in this forum.. but i still like it.. got an account in various forums: reefcentral, reeflounge, saltwaterfish.. hehe.. so slow here only means more time on the other forums..but no matter what, i still like this forum.. some ppls on the other forums seem like they get out of bed on the wrong side every day..

Just out of curiosity, is there something more the mods and admins could be doing to make this an even better place?

In my opinion Shane, no. They are moderated to just the right degree if you ask me, and the content is top notch.
The only thing off the top of my head that I can think of, is maybe certain threads should be specially archived for easy reference for the newbs. The day I no longer have to post why ich isn't always in your tank, and why one should quarantine will be a happy day. :D I've typed pages on that by now. Terry B. though has made some EXCELLENT posts on the subject which I think should be saved somehow for easy reference. That way I can just link people to those posts. That's just one example, there have been other threads which should not be lost amongst the thousands of other posts in the archives as well.
Perhaps an expanded series of FAQ threads are in order. Maybe a series of locked, view only threads about various fishes and their compatibility. (I can certainly help in this department)
Just an idea.

I get the reef bug in waves. Sometimes I can't stay off of the site and other times I'll go for weeks without even checking. But, I agree on one thing and thats the community over here the best there is.

Don't tell anyone, but the only reason I visit "the other guys" is to drop a line to Borneman or Dr. Ron in certain instances.

I also think that a lot of 'regular' posters here tend to do a bunch of reading with the search function before asking questions, which translates into not posting because they figured out the answers!

I think coffee and donuts is a great idea :D

I love this site and have noticed A LOT of new names browsing in the last year. IMO the feel of this board blows the others away. We all remember the banning craze of RC a while back, you wouldn't get that on RDO. Plus you get to know the members here when the board is slower and know the BS ones from the knowledgable ones.

I tend to do very good at searching to come up with answers so I agree with that.

When I do post a question I always get answers, that is much appreciated.

I have only been reefing for two years so sometimes I don't think my answers to others questions are up to the quality of the general populace of the board, so I say nothing most times.

When I get a better camera at least I will add to the photography form more.

Coffe and donuts works for me as well. New furniture is good too. A cross referenced search feature would be good. You know like, nudibrachs, seahares, sea slugs, cuccumbers all showing up on a search for say, sea slug or slugs.

I don't like the other sites, nasty attidudes and having a post drop down the page list without a response is a major turn off. I like, in here, how you can get so many answers and opinions to one question. Good people with knowledge means a world of difference to the newbs.

I do a lot of reading and searching before posting a new thread question. And I don't really care about my post count being high either.
