I have a 210 with poor circulation. I have added 2 Maxijet 1200. The seem to do nothing. Would this Tunze stream be a better alternative. I really don't understand how the work and their benefits. Do you need a sep pump. Do they heat the water? How should they be placed? What a confusing hobby. I have red slime in my refug do to poor flow and circulation.

Imagine an outboard motor prop conected to a regular powerhead. I had the 6080 for my tank (150). It didnt heat the water any more then several powerheads would. I was too strong for my tank and I just couldnt get the polyps on the sps to open up when I had it running. Placment of these is hard so make sure you buy the right mounting kit. The do put off a lot of flow.

I switched to 3 maxi-jets 1200, 2 hagens, and my returns. I will probably throw in a couple of seio 820's also. I feel better having lots of soft flow all over the tank. The tunze was good but very strong. If I could have afforded to sell the 6080 and still buy a smaller unit with a controller I would have.

The models that have controllers allow you control how much GPH they put offf and have a feeding mode. They are pricey but extremely well made.

I have a 6000 stream in a 54 gallon with the wavemaker controller. I have a mix of SPS and soft corals - it does a great job and it is the only powerhead in the tank. I have it turned down to about 30% and 70% for the wavemaker. It was pricey but it is head and shoulders above separate powerheads. I have had many tanks and currently have three. It is one of the better innovations to come along since I have been keeping reefs - about 10 years. If you have a 150 gallon it should do a very nice job. I would advise the wavemaker option as it gives you better flexibility to control the flow. The mounting kit that comes standard does not work with any tank I have seen. Buy the extra mounting kit or be prepared to make your own. Also they are big - double check the size and where you will put it.

I want to get one of the fully configurable Streams for my 100 long. Do you guys recommend the ...

1850 g/h model

or

3175 g/hl model

I was leaning towards the first... thinking the 3175 may be too powerfull.

I wa thinking of going the Tunze route myself as i have 5 powerheads in my 180 already, attached to a Reef-Fanatic wavemaker, it's good, but i feel i'm not giving the few SPS' enough flow.

Do the Tunze streams have a standard plug you can plug into a wave maker,? will they work if used this way?.

And the big question how many will i need 2 - 3 or 4.8O

Ps. anyone know the cheapest place to buy these babies

I am soon to be getting my pair of 6000's to replace my wave2K in my 120. And I am going to wait to get the controller till the new 7095 is out in october. I figure with the 3600GPH these move and the appox 1200-1400 I have flowing thru my returns that I should have enough flow :)

I have two of the 3175 g/hl Tunze Streams hooked up to the Tunze controller. I want to get 2 more (my tank is 450 gal though), but I have heard that Tunze is coming out with even larger pumps!

It's been awhile since I set mine up, I know that you can control the amount of flow with the controller 30% to 100% of the pump's max flow. But I also think the you can adjust the pump's max flow (by adjusting a screw on the driver unit). I don't remember how much you can govern the max flow of the pump.

I don't think you can ever have too much flow... ever go scuba diving along a reef and get tossed around? The only thing I think could be a problem is if the pump kicks up too much sand from the bottom. But fixed that by adjusting the direction of the pumps flow.

My softies sway back & forth in the currents. And the polyps of my sps extend better now with these pumps and the polyps also sway in the currents.

It's lots of $$$, but IMO worth it if you can afford it. There are also Seio Stream pumps, but these are not controllable and I think the largest one is approx. 800 gph compared to Tunze's 3175 gph. I think the Seio 800 is around $60. But IMO the pulsed flow of the Tunze's is much better than the constant flow of the Seio's.

You have to use the electronic ones (6000, 6100, 6200) with a Tunze controller or you could use a single speed model (6060, 6080) and turn it on/off with an appliance timer or adjustable wavemaker - but no more frequently than once per hour.

I guess it depends on what size units you get and how much flow you want. I'd probably go with two - a pair of 6080s on timers, or a pair of 6100s on a Tunze multi controller. You could ask Roger for more specific recommendations in the Tunze forum at RC.

Tunze sets the prices so all vendors should be the same.

Are two of the 6000's too much in a tank thats gonna be mixed (soft, lps, sps)?

I don't think they would be too much. Since you can adjust the flow on the controller, you can take them down to 30% and still use one of the wave settings and the two are adjustable seperately. If you use something like tide mode, the two will switch back and forth (one off, one on) so your corals will have more natural looking motion and you can further reduce the flow if needed. I am very happy with my Streams so far.

I think i'll only get one, because getting 2 6000's on a multicontroller would be outrageously expensive! They sell the 2 6100's with the controller for a reasonable price, but not a package deal with 2 6000's from what i see.
