Ecosystem,

''I have been using miracle mud for 2 years now and I have never had to dose elements''

WELL LOTS OF PEOPLE DONT DOSE TRACE ELEMENTS IN OTHER NON ECOSYSTEM AQUARIA AND DONT GET PROBS.

'' I changed to ecosystem, ditched my skimmer and the miracle mud made my corals open like never before''

WELL THIS COULD BE ATTRIBUTED TO NOT SKIMMING. GROWING CAULERPA WILL PROBABLY ALSO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY. THESE THINGS WILL HAPPEN WITHOUT EXPENSIVE MUD.

‘‘Ive tried a normal algae turf scrubber and it never worked, it kept going asexual. I then put mud in there, lit the sump for 24 hours a day and after that the mud stopped the algae going asexual''

WELL THE CHANGE IN LIGHTING WILL MORE THAN LIKELY STOP IT GOING ASEXUAL, NOT THE MUD!

I don’t mean to pick on ecosystem, but this is one example of a ''miracle'' system, that is no more than a very expensive algae turf scrubber of which the benefits of using it are in no way attributed to the mud. The use of 24 hour lighting is a clever method that works, but that can’t really be sold for $10 dollars a watt.

My point is BB, Beginners Beware. There are a lot of falsehoods out there. Do your research on all the methods out there and beware of anything that claims to be a ''miracle'' The chances are they just want your money and there is no better way of getting it than by selling a miracle.

Sorry for the ranting

One thing I learned very, very quickly in this hobby:
If it costs a lot of money and only one company makes it, you don't need it.

Just to clear up a point, algae growing in mud or a sump is an algae filter. It does not use turf algae for filtration, which never goes asexual. :)

Hope its ok, but I added a couple pics of my turf scrubber to your thread. I know they are all called the same but there is a large difference.

D.W.L how long is your scrubber and what size tank does it filter? How often does it need to be cleaned?

Thanks!

Ben, the screen is about 240 sq. in. The scrubber itself is app. 3ft. long. The unit is rated for 250g but I have always used it, along with a skimmer on large tanks.

The screen should be scraped once or twice per week to keep the good turf algae, but I have gone longer.
