Hi G,

I think the first thing to ask is WHAT size is your tank? That will have a lot to do with the skimmer choice. Also, what is in.. or will be in.. the tank?

Have a good one!

Yes the size of your tank would help. I would suppose that if you want a hob the tank isn't that big, between 20 - 55 gallons. I would suggest and aqua c just off the top of my head. They kick butt and are resonably priced.

I'd recommend the AquaC Remora, or Remora Pro as Seven suggests. The Remora is rated for up to 75g I think. I own one, and have it on my 37g reef. I upgraded the pump from the Rio to the MaxiJet 1200 (which is generally recommended for max efficiency). It has been working great. Its also pretty quiet for a HOT skimmer (unlike the cheaper brands) Highy recommended... I bought mine from www.marinedepot.com Every once and a while you can find them on www.ebay.com If your into ebay... The web page for the skimmer is at www.protienskimmer.com (AquaC page).

Good luck,

Like to know what you decide on.

PS the customer service for AquaC has been great.

The AquaC Remora Pro is no doubt the most efficient HOB out there. I would also suggest anyone buying this skimmer also get the prefilter box for it. It not only hides the pump for a cleaner installation, it skims the surface of the water, making the skimmer even more efficient. You can also put carbon or phosphate remover in it if you wish. AquaC Remora Pro with the Mag 3 pump and prefilter box and optional drain fitting for remote draining would be the ultimate Remora setup.

I have decided upon a new sump skimmer package. This is the skimmer, it's rated at 90 gals

Thanks.

I don't know if a maxi jet 1200 has the power to carry a 90 gallon tank's skimmer. Maybe a 50-60 gallon, at most a 75. JMO.

Too bad they dont have a picture of it in action. So you can see how thick and filled with bubbles the skimmer produces. I love the turbo multi 1000, it gets very little credit, and IME tops out at about 75 gal but its pretty decent, fills very thick with fine bubbles and produces very nicely.

As a relative noob myself, i've now been through 4 skimmers. The best

Deltec MCE600 !!! Hands down and no competition.

Pricey, but well well worth it. !!!!

Ben you are correct my friend, a turboflotor is a great skimmer. I have used all the differant models up to the 5000 twin. But at the moment money is one of the things i dont have a lot of. And i have had very good reports about this skimmer, and have spent a lot of time with the manufacturor on the phone. Yes it is a compromise, but after leaving this behind in britain

i need to recoup some cash before i get any better.
