I've heard a few recent complaints about Seio's too so don't go from the frying pan into the fire.
I saw an informal poll a few years ago that indicated the larger Rio pumps don't fail anymore often than other similar internal pumps but when they do go they have catastrophic failures a LOT more often (oil, current leakage, etc.).

Read the post again. RIOs are no more prone to burning out than any other pump, but when they do, the LARGER models can possibly release some toxic stuff into the water. Don't panic yet.
Just wanted to chime in here and say that I've seen pics of Jimmy's 125 seahorse/macro tank, and it was spectacular. Just a sea of caulerpa, with intensely bright seahorses, gorgonia & the like.
If anyone knows about a macro-dominated tank, it's him.
I still have the pics somewhere...I'll try and dig them up this weekend and post them here.

I have Caulerpa. Although I don't know all of its mysteries, after 25 years of keeping it I've gained a wee bit of knowledge about several species, even it it's just anecdotal.
The species I have kept simply do NOT sequester enough Copper to clean a reef tank of the typical Tap water. There are areas with great water but some of them can be seasonal. For example, my well water is LOADED with Phosphate in the spring - in the winter it's zero.
There's enough algae in this lagoon to completely fill a 300 gallon display tank and yet my tank water still contained copper at levels above Natural Sea Water.
