Someone told me that you can find Florida corals to buy for a tank? Anyone know if that is true? I saw one guy online selling things, but he only had a couple of gorgonians and mushrooms or something.

Anyone know if I can get some corals from there?

You can find "aquacultured" Ricordia florida, a type of mushroom, for sale in some store and online vendor. Harvesting coral from florida water may have regulatory consequence, so be care about your source.

Actually, harvesting (with a license) is legal of soft corals as long as you are cutting pieces off and not taking the rock they are on. Ricordea, zoanthids, etc are commonly collected there.

As are mobile invertebrates.

And unless you are a certain guy that regulates permitting in Florida, the stoney corals are strictly forbidden.

I heard that any corals attached to Florida aquacultured live rock is fair game. I just got some gulf-view rock that came with a few corals but I don't know what they are.

How many crabs and mantis did you get? Just curious.

Send in an octopus will cure your crab and mantis problem in no time......... of course, only for newly setup tanks. My LFS has octopus for rent regularly, only for preferred customers.

Hey Wade, with octocorals, you can actually take a 1" x 1" x 1" piece of the substrate that the coral is anchored to.

Also, not all soft corals are fair game. No species of Gorgonia is legal.
