Well I finally got rid of my freshys from my 55gallon and drained the tank, washed it out, put sand in it, and filled it up. Like normal it got all cloudy from the sand (yes I did a pre-rinse) and I'm going to give it some time to settle down. If it doesn't clear up in a few days does anyone have any short cuts to clearing the tank? I've never had this last more than 3 days but I've never done a salty this large before.

The bacteria from a piece of LR should knock down the floating sand in the tank in a day or so. I'm not sure what your plans are in this respect, but if you're thinking of geting some LR, this might be a good time. Good luck!

Getting the bacteria going usually clears it faster, that why IME tanks that add the LR and sand at once have less clouding issues. FWIW, I also either add sand then pour in the water on a plate to disperse the flow to prevent clouding to begin with. If I am adding it to a tank that already has water then add the sand in cups or bags and dumping it at the bottom laying it out of its container.

I never rinse the sand if I am using it, why would the fine paricles hurt? I read a while back Dr. Ron :? said it was more natual and created a better sandbed if it wasnt rinsed.

In anycase add some live rock and get the cycle going, the sand will clear up soon!

Well I had left the filters off and everything cleared up. Turned the filters on and things got kicked up again. I just added some rock I found and the disturbance of the sand that had settled has kicked it back up. How long do you think it will take to clear back up? Anyone think that maybe some Activated Carbon might help grab those fine particles?
