Hey gang...I have a 30 gallon cube FOWLR tank that has been up and running for a little over a year. 2 Percula Clowns, 1 Yellow Tail Damsel, Hermits, Snails, Brittle Star, Shrimp. 48 hrs ago I purchased my first Anemone (LTA). He really hasn't found a spot to stay in the tank yet. He just seems to be at the mercy of the current! He has eaten small pieces of fresh shrimp and really looks fine but he is often just laying on his side. My question is, is it possible that I have too much current for him to settle in? I have a canister filter (no media, just for water movement) and one maxi-jet power head up high in the water column. Also there is 3 inches of sand bed for him to dig into. 175 watt MH lighting

I don't have much experience with anemones (only kept a condy and that was years ago) so I can't be of much help. I'll move your thread into the main discussion forum and also leave a copy here you'll get more looks.

You need to try to provide the anemone with an ideal location, then it might stand more chance of staying put. If its actively blowing around int he tank and not making attempts to anchor, it obviously dislikes something.

LTAs require their feet to be tucked into the sand, usually such that they can grab onto a rock of the bottom of the tank, thru the sand/gravel layer. An alternative is to try a deep crevice in the rocks, but that is not their natural position.

What type of lighting do you have? That would be my next concern.

As to current, its not too much. I have seen them in the wild getting (all 4 feet of them) flipped around in a shifting surge. Key is getting it to attach first.

I have found that the few times I have had to relocate my LTA (when we moved to a new home and when I had to move him to another tank) I dug a hole in the sand and "planted" my LTA, and he secured his foot to something through the sand by the next day.

Thanks Chris and Wade...My lighting is 175 watt MH pendant. I really take a lot of pride in my tank and strive to keep it very clean and excelent water params. I really don't want to fail with this LTA. He did eat again today but still has yet to find a place! 24 hours ago I did try making a little crater for him to stay put in but it didn't hold, I know I can't make him :D . All of my live rock is piled against the back of the tank, perhaps I should put a piece on the sand bed for him to anchor under?

Did you try turning off the current until he can get a hold of something? I'm sure he'll wader around when you turn it back on but at least he won't be floating.

Once my LTA found a spot, my stOOpid tomatos dug it a nice trench so it decided to suck up to the glasss bottom. I can see it from underneath which is kinda cool. Healthy otherwise.
