Yah, that'll do it, it looks a lot like mine except mine is 5 stages and i got it for 12 bucks more.

I think DI is like a cleanup canister that uses deionization to get out any impurities the RO missed, but Im not sure.

That one looks fine to me.

I also have a 5-stage but 2 of the stages are both carbon. Not really sure if there is any anvantage to having 2 stages of the same thing. I doubt it.

I'm no expert, but I didn't see the DI mentioned in the description. From what I understand, the deionization cartridge removes Silicates. I purchased the Kent Marine RO/DI system. I think it was a bit more expensive. But since you're already shelling out the moola, you might want to go all the way and get a full RO/DI system.

The DI cartridge will provide the final cleanup after the RO it should bring the tds from around 5 to close to zero. DI's provide very clean water on their own, I beleive it is an ion exchange process, but the filter is used up fast if used alone, thats why the are best placed after a RO membrane.

Sweet. since I need a new membrane, filters, and DI, I'm thinking about buying a new one. (I have a 100gpd and don't need that much)

Louey- Having two carbons could be a good thing. if you put in two different micron ratings, you could get better filtration. Say you have a 5 micron and a .5 micron after it. the 5 will filter out everything 5 and up. then the second one will filter out everything from .5 up to 5, and whatever particles larger slip through. If you put a .5 in first, it has to filter out all the particles larger than .5 It will clog up faster and need replaced sooner.

If you use the same micron ratings, you would only have to replace the first in line. Then you could switch the second one to the first slot, and put a new one where you tookout the second.

I have read somewhere that before installing RO/DI unit it is good idea to call local water department and get water test reading. Does anyone know what type of test do I need to request from them? I think TSD would be one of them, but what also?

Try hbwatersystems.com. I purchased the reef master from them @ 100gpd 5 stage kit. They have good prices for lower gpd. I love it. They also sell on ebay. I paid about $189 for mine. They also send out order forms every six months to remind you of replacement parts. Good luck.

Can you disconnect these systems when not in use? I'm also interested in purchasing one, but I don't want the "mess" when not needed. Living in a condo, there's not room for a "slop sink" or something like that.

The buckeye system is still the best deal and IME corallife products are crappy. I would still just get the buckeye premium. FWIW you can usually find your local water company water test on the web.

If you don't leave the RO unit connected at all times be sure not to let the membrane dry out. This would ruin it.
