I have 2 Bar Gobies that have been swimming harmoniously for a few months now. One of them has doubled in size in comparison of the other. As of a few days ago, they are a bit territorial towards each other like a pair of damsels, and don't interact. Any insights to the new behavior?? Just curious.

Hi. Permit me to move this to the General Reef Discussion since this is a more advanced question. My hunch is one underwent a sex change (most gobies are hermaphrodites).

I agree with Len. Sounds like the larger has turned (or is in the process of turning) female. If they pair up, that aggressiveness should calm down somewhat, although I know very little about gobies' spawning habits.

If one of the pair passes on, will a previously paired fish find a new mate?

With Gobies, you can tell if they are maiting by the Barry White music they are playing. :D
