The video at the site looked like the speed was kicked by a factor of 4 or 6. I can't see where there is any alternating currents. Just 4 way and 8 way flow. We can build manifolds that do that for much cheaper. Am I missing something here?

It's like an actuated motor on top that turns and alternates the flow through one of the four (or eight) outlets.

Yeah, this product has been available for a while. I was thinking of trying one on my sump return on the up-coming tank. Price seems pretty reasonable for the basic model - not much more than a 1" Sea-Swirl.

Reports I've seen so far are that they are very well built units with very good customer service to back them up.

I think the humming in the video may have been the pump. Reports are that these things are quiet.
