I need some help in designing a refrugium for my 100 gallon saltwater tank (32x32x24). It is set up under a Berlin system and has a Aqua-medic turboflotor on the side as a hang on. I have 4 power heads that run the current. I want to put on a hang on refugium that will efficently filter my size tank and get rid of the nitrites. On the top of the tank, it has about a 4-5" lip which would need to be accounted for (since I don't want to drill any more). I would love to hear any suggestions where I can get a refugium that would work for this.

I like your tank's dimensions! :)

Is there any way to plumb a refugium below or above the tank. A hang-on style will greatly hinder the size you can make it, and for a 100 gallon, you should aim for something substatial (e.g. 30 gallons). If you had to go hang-on, I'd build one that is the length and almost the full height of the tank, with a width of about 10-12" (overall dimensions something like 30x20x10 = about 25 gallons). You can design it like CPR's hang-on refugiums where water is pumped into the refugium and spilled back out (you can make a spillway that travels the legnth of the 4" lip). The cavaet is this might put excessive strain on that panel of glass or acrylic, so that's why a refugium plumbed below or above the tank is better.

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that bigger is better and I like your huge hang on idea simply because I have absolutly no place for a sump/refugium above or below. I can support some of the weight of the hang on refugium from underneath, therefore eliminating the strain on the aquarium walls. Is there a website where I can view the CPR refugium?
Thanks
Brian
