Anyone Use Phosphate Eliminator??

Anyone use the Salifert product Phosphate Eliminator? It sounds like a good product, but would like to know of anyone using it. I really like that you don't have to use an iron or aluminium based product.

Thanks for the info. I'm not a chemist so I was assuming this was something different than the normal "absorber" type media.

Of course you have to keep your secrets so I wasn't sure what "Active ingredients: phosphate binders" actually encompassed. I was under the assumption it was something other than iron or aluminium.

So, will this "phosphate binders" actually be removed after it stops binding the PO4? Or will it still be lingering in my tank and possibly also bind onto my rock and sand?

i would have said EVERYONE use......

and the answer would be yes pretty much. Maybee not if you have one helluva RO/DI. I use Rowaphos with good results.

If you have a small enough tank, and like me cant afford a RO/DI unit (although I want one.) I would suggest going to wally world (otherwise known as wal-mart) and buying water for .50 a gallon. But...and this is a big but...Look on the label and make sure that it is sodium free and purifyed by reverse osmosis and Deionization. There are some filtered by other means but since I dont know what those are I just dont even look at anything that doesnt say "Filtered by Reverse Osmosis and Deionization." And to be double safe, take it home and run some labs on it. Specifically phosphate levels, you will find that theyare nill. However if you have a big tank, this can be costly and a RO/DI unit may actually save you money. My reef tank is only 29 gallons so it doesnt take a lot of cash to do this.

Most of it will be transported by the skimmer. So a skimmer is a necessity. Anything left in the aquarium will do no harm and will not be adsorbed on rock and sand.
