I have a clown fish who is trying to make a star anomone its host, and the star doesn't like it it closes up. Im afraid that it will die off soon, so I need to get a descent host for this fish. any suggestions...????

What clownfish is this? It will help us determine which anemone would be best suited for it. Note that a tank really should only have one anemone.

LTA are great, hardy anemones, but they don't naturally host all species of clowns. That isn't to say your clown won't eventually go into the LTA, but it may still favor the current host.

Do you have an image of the star anemone. I'm not certain which species this is.

What's your lighting like? There was a post a few days ago about clowns hosting in all kinds of things from zoos to colt corals. My true percs like to hang out in a torch coral.

I have heard that if it is tank bred it will host in anything. My two tank bred false percs used to host in a patch of hair algae. They were pretty pissed when I got my nutrients back under control but then they started to host in my mushrooms. The trick is to get them to stop hosting in the star anemone. Any ideas anyone?

I added a new purple tip pacific anonomy yesterday and it stopped messing with the star but hasn't migraed to the new one. If that fails Im going to try a long tent... These are pretty small so I should have room plus with all the live rock I can stagger them so they dont touch.!

the problem with false percs is they can sometimes be very picky about their anemones. they prefer carpets and ritteris. carpets are very beautiful and some are fairly easy to keep. ritteris on the other hand tend to travel all over the tank, they never find the perfect spot, but the second best spot is almost always on the front of the tank right about mid way up so you can't see anything in the tank but a big purple ritteri butt, and since the clowns will be in the ritteri, you won't see them either since they will be on the other side of the ritteris butt.
