People laways talk about acclimation, but I know more people than not have a very crude or no acclimation when introducing new specimens.

What do you do??

Let me go first:

Frags: float the bag for 30-45 min, take frag out of the water, discard 100% of the water it came in, and place the frag in its ultimate position.

Colonies: I have only done this once since I am a frag guy, but it exactly the same as above.

I don't advocate this method for anyone, but I am curious as to how many poeple do anything beyond the above and more importantly WHY???

I float the bag for 30 minutes and then start adding small amounts of tank water to the bag every ten minutes or so. I do this for an hour or so.

I have also used the drip method. That works well.

I think the slower you acclimate things the better chance they will have at surviving and becoming truly healthy corals, clams, fish, whatever.

Actualy I'm one of those who just put the corals in. I acclimate almost everything else except corals, LR, & LS with the drip method. But acclimating them won't hurt them and may even be the best way to go.

I float the bag for 20 minutes, transfer the coral and enough water to cover in a 1 gal bucket (or smaller) and add a little water every 15 minutes for 1-2 hrs...depends on how much time I have..

I've just took home and stuck em in the tank too. If I have time I try to acclimate.

I do this also but when its time to place the coral I take it out of the water in the bag and throw away all the water it came in.
