Well I have upgraded my 75G reef to a 120G
Here is what I did-
setup the 120 with new sand and seeded it with a few cups from the 75
used 80% of the tank water and filled the rest with NSW
Used all my rock from the 75 (150lbs or so) and added a couple of chunks of dry rock
Most of my equptment was purchased and used on the 75 with a bigger tank in mind.

2x400 10K XMs, 2x110 VHO Actinics, ER 5-2 soon to be upgraded to an 8-3, for flow I have a RIO HF32 and the return is a RIO HF20

The over flow box is custom and runs the whole length of the back of the tank with drains in the corners so it skims the whole length of the surface.

I also removed several fish that was in the 75 and 2 large starfish

Now my question, will I run into any type of problem starting with a new sand bed? Should I be ok with less bioload and the same rock? Will I get any type of cycle or spike?

thanks for looking

I have had to move my tank (155g and 55g) several times, as I move frequently.

I usually do about what you did, and have never had any problems other than maybe a light algae bloom on the sandbed.

do you need to move it all at once? can you move a few fish over first to get the bioload started?

Has anyone ever tried? Will it even make a difference?

I had to move EVERYTHING from one tank to the other aand so far so good. Some of my corals browned a little but are comming back, maybe from being in the buckets for so long and having a bit of a temp swing. I did lose 1 frag to RTN and all the fish are fine and dandy
