Will The added c02 cause a noticable acceleration in coral growth (similar to plants)? I was thinking my tank may be lacking c02, the room its in doesnt get good enouph ventilation. Think a few fish would add much c02 to a 50g?
A poorly ventilated room will have excessive CO2, actually. It'll be O2 depleted. Adding CO2 won't help corals grow since corals are animals and respire. The only reason to add CO2 to reef tanks is if you want an algae tank or if you're dissolving calcium carbonate.
A few fish will add plenty of CO2 to a tank, but I don't think that's what you should be striving for.
I bought my Ca reactor and recently added a diy cylinder to increase the capacity. Depending on how handy you are, diying the reactor may be more challenging. The kalk reactor is very easy to create...if you already have a dosing pump as part of your top off system. I used a pretzel jar with a powerhead in it.....can't beat the price and works great.
So, the ca reactor output with the possible ph reduction potential is offset by the kalk reactor.
The Kalkreactor will have a lower initial cost but will cost more over time.
The Calcium reactor will cost more initially, but will cost less over time.
The Kalkreactor adds the kalk with the topoff water so depends on the evoperation rate. This means that if you don't have to top off you tank much you won't add as much Kalk.
The Calcuim reactor circulates tank water much like a skimmer does. Thus it is not dependant on the evoperation rate.
