Been ordering a few new toys for my new tank should be fun.
Here is my set back...
Increased my tank size a bit in length and my builder said it "should hold" but no gaurantee. So what do you guys think?

Tank Specs:

100 x 26 x 26 with water height of 24"
1/2'" starphire glass on three sides
2"euro bracing around the top
two 8 x 8 corner over flows

my options:
regular glass a bit stronger
5/8 glass plenty strong, no Starphire, really heavy, way more money
shorten the tank length
go with it, maybe add two cross braces

I'd happily go shorter and wider but the width is maxed out given my rooms specs. (makes my dinning room small/ better half unhappy all ready)

Thanks
Dave

Personally, I don't like using the word "should" when referring to something that is keeping many gallons of water of my floor and holding the life support system of my beloved animals. I want to hear "definitly will hold".

But, I will admit that I don't know anything about proper glass thickness for tanks, just going on what your builder said.

you certainly don't need starfire (low iron) for 1/2 '' or 5/8' glass see thread on low iron glass. You might join that thread with your question scheimer is on it and he is quite expert on these matters.

Thanks I read that thread. No I don't need Starphire and no it won't make a huge difference but if I can I want to.

If the maker said no guarantee, that's all I would nedd to change my mind. 1/2 sounds pretty thin for 26". I wouldn't do it.

It is 26" inches of glass 24" of water which I think is OK for half inch. It is the length that causes the issues I think.

Thanks for the help so far. Still don't know what to do, I for sure don't ever want to hear I told you so, I want to make the right dessision. I'd have to say I'm thinking more about 5/8." It just costs almost double and is way heavier to the point of making moving it a big challenge.
