I have a Cleaner Shrimp that molts almost every month, he is about 2.5" long now, and I have had him for about three months.

Same thing with my red leg hermits.................is this excessive?

Thanks

When I had my cleaner shrimp some times they molted every month sometimes every few months. Depends on the growth rate I think.

My Pepermint shrimp disapears for a week nearly monthly. You could almost set your clock by it. When it re-emerges, it is a little bigger, and I remove an empty carapice. it all seems normal to me. :D

Not excessive at all. A question...do you do regular water changes?

I believe that iodine (found in regular water changes) helps cleaner shrimp molt. Can anyone back me up on this?

Iodine definitely helps molting.

True, but it's not necessary to supplement it. Unless you want to help line Kent's pockets. I never add iodine to my tanks, and my cleaners molt every two weeks or so when they release eggs.

Chris,
Yes I do regular water changes once a month..... 25%.
I add nothing to the water other than Calcium.

Thanks everybody.

Yup.. mine carry green eggs, then they turn a bit grey, and at night they release and molt. All is good! This happens almost every 3 weeks. (I also have two cleaner shrimpies... a very cool addition to a reef tank).
