Bought a yellow goniopora.. but heard there's no such thing in the wild, fish shopper owner could have dyed the poor fella. Any truth to this claim?

Is it bright yellow all over? Then it's probably dyed, but not likely by the fish shop owner.

That species is not likely to survive in your tank anyway, sorry.

I'd take a look on wetwebmedia, and see what Anthony Calfo has to say about survivability of Goniopora. From what I understand, though haven't witnessed myself, they come from rather silty, nutrient-laden lagoons. If that's the case, then it would seem that they can do well if given proper care.

As to the rest of it, I believe Dan has nailed it on the head.

No one has (to my knowledge) managed to keep any Goniopora's alive for more than a year at best (there are a red species that do better).

That said, I have also seen bright glowing greenish/yellow colored goni's that are natural. You can tell if the exporter dyed it by looking at the skeleton/rock its is on... that should be stark white.

I have seen them on wholesale lists the last week or two as dyed flowerpots though, so its very possible.
