Ok, my lease is up in december, and i'll be looking at trying to move all my tanks for the second time. Currently I have a 55g and 120g FW as well as a 75g reef. This is just too damn much and kinda stupid for me to own until I get someplace I plan on staying for more than a year. I just sold the 120g and am planning on keeping the 55g but I need to sell the reef tank soon. So here's my question, how do I figure a price for whats fair? They way I figured it is this:

Lighting cost: $300
Skimmers: $250
Powerheads: $75
Overflow: $75
Wet/Dry: $200

The tank and stand were given to me by a friend of mine, then I built the canopy for the 2x 250w MH and 2x 40W actinics. I was also going to throw in the sand and live rock pieces that I don't keep. Now, I know theres no way to recover anything near what I have put into it, but how do I determine a fair price for it? Truthfully I was thinking I would be happy with something around $350 for everything- is that right? More... less... I have no experience with this was just hoping to get a nano started with the cash. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You are lucky if you get half to 1/3 what you paid for it. If you plan on setting up another tank later, keep it all as opposed to selling it and buying another setup in a year.

Oh and selling the whole thing all at once is possible but don't count on it.

eBay can be a beautiful thing sometimes...

You might be able to look at what others are charging for their equipment there and get most of your money's worth out of the sale. Shipping isn't a hard thing to do but you'd want to make sure on the auction info you stated "as is" and packaged everything well.

I would suggest that you keep whatever you got for free as you probably won't ever be able to replace it for free...

I'll be moving to another apartment next month and then to Texas next July so I feel your pain... When I move to Texas I'll be keeping tank, stand and all equipment but most likely I'll get rid of the rest on eBay. My LFS told me they'd only give me $200 at best for all live rock, corals and fish when I've invested $700 on it, at their store to boot... I can kinda understand though because for all they know my rock could be infested w/ aiptasia, corals dying, icky fish... used stuff always incurs a risk for the new owner.
