Since it is so rare that I haven't heard of it, I wonder whether it should have been collected? Does anyone know how to keep it alive?

I seem to recall that one of our members has one or had one.

I believe that it was Marillion.

It's "Griffis" angelfish. It's the name of the one that discovered it.

The sci-name is Apolemichthys griffisi

It may be a less imported fish, but I don't think it's that pretty. If I were you, I would let someone else that wahts to pay for it have it.

That is pretty ugly. I was hoping you guys could help me ID this fish. I saw this at PetCo last week (I know  ) listed as a damsel for $2.99, but could not find it in the Fish Index.

That's a joke. It's not a juvenile anything. It's a Centropyge boylei, worth a couple grand to a rare fish collector.

I think Len had an A. griffisi(sp?). IMO not all that pretty but yes, farely rare.

Hey PO-TA-TOES,

What makes it so rare? Are they found only at great depths?

Only 300' deep and a very limited known range. Why not buy a couple of them ChrisPy? :D

The griffis? I don't know. I think it has a limited distribution. It might just be endemic to places with limited collecting. This is the case with lots of E. African fish. Not really rare, just rare in the hobby.

The boylei just comes from really deepwater as Andy mentioned.
