Sure it's good. Blasting your rocks helps keep detritus from settling. It keeps the detritus in the water column so that your skimmer has a shot at removing it.

It's great and should be practiced by those with SPS tanks. It simulates storms that reefs are subjected to in the wild. Sometimes referred to as the 'hurricane effect'. It's a good way of keeping detritus from accumulating within and around corals, not to mention the live rock too. Many use powerheads the same way instead of turkey basters.

If you use one you really shouldn't use the same one you baste your Thanksgiving turkey with, though.
It's best to buy one just for your tank.

Yes, a great idea.

Also, you can take a powerhead use that to blast detritus out of your rockwork.

Correct me if this is a bad meathod, but I use a long plastic cooking spoon to stir stuff up. I also use it to stir up the sand a bit. It really gets things in motion :D

I do it every day, along with cleaning the skimmer.

Yup, same here... usually do it at night, so I don't damage any polyps.

Just a little side comment for bradl...great avatar of Ralph Wolf & Sam Sheepdog. I remember when that limited edition came out...sold quite a few of them that day. Great memories. Chuck Jones was a master, for certain.

Now back to your regularly-scheduled reef talk. :D

Peace,

Chip

I only do this when I want to frag the coral...
