I'm thinking of getting one for my 125g SPS tank.
Any reviews (either positive or negative)?
Any suggestions for a pump? I'm thinking of using a Dolphin.

Which one? I got the squirt and it ROCKS. I wish I would have gotten an 8 way instead.

I am planning on getting a squirt for my 60g. I have not heard any negatives.

Prevailing currents on reefs are unidirectional and laminar.

If only big actuated ball valves weren't so expensive!
Did ya get the cd?

Not yet! I'm checking my mailbox twice a day in anticipation!

Hey Galleon, this is my plan for my next reef, tell me what you think:

I've noticed that I get much better flow in the tank when the devices all work together in creating a circular flow around the tank, rather than pointing at each other to create turbulence as is frequently advised.

So I thought I would make two circuits of pvc around the top of the tank with many jets pointing all in the same direction, one circuit would be clockwise and the other counterclockwise.

I would alternate between the with a motorized ball-valve. How long do you think each cycle should run? You could go a minute or two to replicate surge, of 7 or so hours for tidal change...

This is what I do as well, except it's a vertical weir going around the tank:

I would go tidal. The short herky jerky motion of surge is inconsequential compared to tidal flow.

I think I'm going to get a OM 4-way, and have one and a half holes, opposite each other.

Magilla, how come we never see pic of your tank?
Well, not much to look at, Dan. It's an empty 125 at this point. I'm trying to fund massive home repairs and slowly buy the equipment to set up my tank.
As of now I have the lights, the skimmer, the calcium reactor, the sump, and that's about it. I want to get a return pump, the OM 4 way, and a pump to drive the 4-way. Then I'll need LR and some fish.

Sounds like you're almost there! :D

Remember to do it as sustainably as possible!

Thanks Galleon, I was leaning towards tidal as well. Its all a couple years away at this point anyway.

MG- well I guess that explains it!

Sustainably? Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean?

Frags separated from the original wild colony be a few generations, captive bred fish, that sort of thing.

Hey Galleon, what do you mean by vertical weir?

Instead of a horizontal weir, like you're talking about, where the water moves around the tank in a circle sideways, A vertical weir would be the water moving around the tank in a circle from top to bottom.
