i know of aquarium adventure. They are alright. Pretty big. Most of the staff knows less than me (and I don't know that much) but some of them are well educated. I think they're prices are kind of high, but not all that bad. They're main problem is that they can't really ever seem to keep they're limited selection of corals alive long enough to sell.

Got info from Aquarium Adventures about franchises. They want me to have 250K, top end, to open a store. Anyone want to help me out here? Looks like what I will wind up doing is setting up a maintance company and do some internet selling. My fishroom is 15x15 so I do have plenty of room there. Early in the new year I plan to remodle it to allow for some larger prop tanks and start breeding some freshwater again. E-bay and aquabid are pretty easy to sell on, and with paypal it makes taking money pretty easy. My father-in-law has owned a limo company for several years, one of 2 to survive the fall out of 9-11 in his area. He is going to work with me on the buisness plan, and web design. I expect to be doing something no later than May on-line. The goal for actual store will still come, but down the road a bit. Thanks for the feedback

Good luck, Rob. Sounds like you are on the right track. You can always start out small, with little capital, and you will be able to tell right away (with doing the numbers) if it is going to work on a large scale.
All the best to ya,

well you heard wrong, green carpets of a large size might go for 60 to 70 dollars but that is a very large one. we have been in the same spot for 18 years and salt is all we do and we do it very well. we are not like quite a few places that say the way they do things is the way it should be done, we feel if it works for you then do it, that means, if you want to have every cool contraption that is available and it works for you then go for it, or if you want to have a mason jar and an airstone and that works for you then go for that. i still use a wet/dry on my personal tanks, yes thats right..... the dreaded and much maligned wet/dry, but it works for me and my reef is quite beautiful, i still use only vho bulbs on my reef also, but it works for me, if you want vho's i say they work, if you want mh i say they work too, it's all what you want to do with your tank. don't believe everything you hear, and only half of what you see.we are no more expensive than most maybe a little on some things but less on others, it's all relative, a yellow tang in our shop goes for 24 dollars, i saw some this weekend in va beach going for 40, they come from hawaii for god's sake.by the same token a large piece of sinularia may go for 100 or 120 dollars but you can bet your last dollar it is a very well taken care of sinularia. we sell tanks at our cost, we make all of our own wet/dry filters we wire up all of our own vho's, and we have also been at a customers house at 3 in the morning setting up his tank, not many places will do that. so whoever told you that a green carpet was that much is just plain lying, unless it was a basketball sized carpet, including the basketball. here is a pic of my reef with 6 vho's and a wet/dry, you tell me if it works

I just wanted to say I think Bierboy's suggestion is a good one. Tank maintenance can be run out of your home and the initial costs are peanuts. It's also a pretty much set source of income every month unless you don't know what you're doing and lose a client or kill fish or something. Talk to dentists, doctors, lawyers, etc. Most of them want a fish tank in their office and have the money to pay for it, they just don't know who to call.
