Home owners insurance (Reef friendly)?

I'm moving to Newtown, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia suburbs) and I would like to know what type of home owners insurance is available that protects against damage to aquariums or damage to property caused by leaking aquariums.

Anybody out there have any ideas?

Kind of off topic but if you need a nice LFS The Hidden Reef in philly is a good place to check out. If your into trading when you get set up and have some stuff going shoot me an email.

I have homeowners insurance but never looked into it if they would cover any damage related to the tank, or plumbing leaking from my ro unit inside the wall :evil:

most homeowners policies cover the tank and DECORATIONS in the tank. Not the LIVING animals. There was a big thread a while back(I can't find it) where someone's tank crashed. The inspector almost didn't cover the $1000's of dollars the guy lost in SPS because the homeowner mentioned they were alive.

Damage FROM the tank is probably another add-on. As long as it's not an accident. (me running into and breaking the tank) I'm covered under my renter's insurance.

i ended up geting insurance where everything in the tank is coverd except for the tank... including living animals . i got insurance through Allstate

Most policies cover anything the water damages(not livestock), EXCEPT the defective device that caused the damage. I had a flood over a year ago from the ice maker on the 2nd floor's fridge. Everything was covered except the water attachment(that would have included the fridge but the fridge had no damage(thank God)). My freshwater tank was wiped out. They covered everything in and on the tank, except the livestock.

Did you have to show reciepts or just tell them the value?

They actually took my word for it. Unless they are reefers/fishkeepers they wouldn't know what the stuff is really worth.

When I got my new homeowners insurace I asked the representative about this and they said that they would pay for any equipment, but they couldn't cover any living critters. They also said they would just take our word for it about what stuff was worth, but did suggest that we go ahead and take pictures of all our equipment (and other valuables) as it will make it easier for US to remember everything should something happen.
