I am going to buy an Octopus online and was wondering about if I could ship it 2 Day. The Octopus is a very hardy animal in the wild but I dont know about shipping. Please dont tell me that I need to be safe and ship it overnight because I am not asking that question. I want to know if you think it will last 2 days. It will be about the size of a 50 cent piece.

Thanks,
Shane

Uh, no. They rank as just about the worst shippers out there, regardless of how hardy they are in the wild. Where are you ordering it from? You know captive bred Octopus bimaculatus are available right?

How much research have you done on keeping an octo man. It is NOT easy. It will kick the hell over in 2 days guarunteed. They need a dissolved o2 content of at least 90 percent, two days in a bag will take care of that.

about the only octo to get is a captive bred bimac, and I would still do LOTS of research before jumping into it.

This is where I've bought from in the past. Fairly local to both of us. Pick it up at the FedEx hub in your area or get the priority (before 1030am) delivery. It will be worth the extra money. This particular species is fairly easy to care for once settled in. This particular species is actually reluctant to climb out of open topped tanks as well.

Not that smart. I've never heard a good theory about it. It's very strange because in the wild they will climb out of water all the time AFAIK. I didn't really believe it myself until I tried it. You need a lot of hiding places to try it though.

Octopus rubescens is kind of similar, sort of. At least in my one time experience. I kept a female in a flow through 10 gallon tank. She was about the size of a golfball with arms that could stretch over a foot. The top was that plastic light diffuser stuff, which she could fit through if she REALLY wanted to. Never did though, until she was left unfed for three days. Chowed down on some hermits and porcelain crabs. Put her back in, and she never tried again. Give em great water conditions, lots of hiding places, ample food, and lots of interaction when feeding and they make a wonderful pet.
