weight of a tank upstairs?

I wasnt really thinking about this til today but I wanted to know what kind of tanks you guys have upstairs? I am about to setup a 72 bow and It would be easiest to setup upstairs. There is also no walls underneath where it would be setup. You think it would be alright or not to risk it? I tried searching but havent found much. My house isnt the newest either... I know water beds are safe but they are also spread out alot more

tank up stairs

i live on a second floor and have a 62g with a 24g sump. best bet is having it close to a corner you have the most strenght in that area. to be on the safe side before i filled tank. i put everything where it was going plus the tubs of water and tubs with rock all in same area and basically let the floor settle for a few days with that weight to make sure it wouldnt crash through

Unfortunately, the strongest room is often also the smallest room and you might not want to put your aquarium in the kitchen. So, the best practical position is often as close to a bearing wall or column as possible and oriented perpendicular to the floor joists. That way the aquarium weight is distributed to as many floor joists as possible. And the closer to the wall the aquarium can be positioned the more total weight in pounds the floor joists can support. An aquarium stand with a continuous runner at the bottom will distribute the weight a lot better than a stand with just four legs.

If you run your tank perpendicular to the floor joists and close to the wall you should be fine. For further weight distribution you can place a sheet of 3/4" underlayment under the tank/stand.

I've got a 55g in my loft against the outer wall, so far everything seems ok. But then again I have an old school 36" wega tube on the same wall. :scratchch
