I have had them in the past. They would pick at it but were are also one of the first at the table when I fed the tank. I would say they are in line with a yellow tang.

I have a large Fox Face who is not one to graze on algae - he is one of the first in line when solid food is introduced into the tank or when a piece of Romaine lettuce is put in for a variety of tangs to munch on.

My figi foxface eats a wide variety of algae, including hair algae.

He is a very nice fish.

next logical question is... should I attempt to keep on in my 37 g tank? I know they get fairly large, but I could probably keep a small one for a while couldnt i? (hehe before I upgrade tanks... shhhh) I assume it would take quite a while to grow up.

yeah you could give it a whirl and sell it back to the lfs that you got it from, might loose some money, but you are basically paying for algae destruction. But as reef box says, it is hit or miss with each fish, but id give it a whirl if I were you.

First, every fish is different, and they will not eat Bryopsis. Many people post about "hair algae" when what they in fact have is Bryopsis. Not saying this is you, just making a point. Second, they are FAST growers, and your tank is much too small.

I don't know what the kind of hair I have growing in my refugium (it only grows there) but if I grab some out and throw it in the tank, my foxface and my super large sailfin tang eat it right up.

He is rather large for a 37 gallon tank, even as a temporary thing. Maybe an army of snails would be a better choice.

Mexican turbo snails have always worked well for me. The up side is the do a reall good jod so you do not need many, I had 7 in a 110 gal. The down side is they can get big and will move larger than expected objects that are not held down.

Seems the wise choice is an army of snails (in the works of planning a fuge too BOB).

I'll let you all know what happens.
