Rose Bubble Tip anemone

Well, the tank has been going for 6 months EXACTLY as of today July 21-January 21. I've been patiently to add a RBTA, and was wondering if it is alright to add one now?

If I can add one now, should it be quarantined first, or is it alright to just drip acclimate and add it to the tank?

Having read they will move around until they are happy, I am a little concerned it might move to an area I don't want it. Do you have any tricks to getting it where you want it?

Had my 10g nano running for about a month before I dropped mine in.

Any tips on how to keep them where you want'em? The last thing I want is to add one and have it head to the back side of the tank. <sigh>

BTA like to hide their foot under a rock, so you could make sure there are some cracks or ledges for it. They like very bright light without strong direct current. When they find these things they will settle in. I think it is a little easier to attract them to a certian spot than keep them from one. Current directed at their foot can persuade them to move.

So... I should provide an area with low current and high light... okay. Since I have an 8 bulb t5 setup, I think maybe it should be high up in the tank?

To be honest... I'm not sure what a "suitable" crevice is for the RBTA?? Anyone have a sample pic of what to setup for it?

Mine seems unhappy with the mega light that I give him. Or it could perhaps be that he gets a lot of flow where he is. He hasn't gone on the move yet. Your guy will move around until he finds a spot he likes....even if you don't like the same spot .

My Rose BTA's are under 400W Metal Halides about 12" in front of a Reeftec PE-2 (A little stronger than a tunze stream 6100).

They have been in the same spot for 2 years.

Mine doesn't like the intense lighting either and when I place it in the light, it continually moves down into the rocks where it is sheltered, just sticking it's tentacles out.

If you provide a spot with moderate flow, where it can hide its foot totally and reach for the light (mine are under 400W halides too and not far from the surface) they will stay put.

I've never had one wander... find a crack or an overhanging ledge in the tank (they really like holes in rock) and place it there, just make sure the hole/cleft is not in the light.

I'd say the tank is more than fine for the BTA as long as you are keeping things stable.

Yep, been doing fine for the last 4 months now. - I dropped him right over a big old tubastrea skeleton (liverock) which was sitting right side up and he nestled into a cup and stayed put for about 2 months until I neglected to feed him for a couple weeks (oops!) - then he went wandering some. - I just pryed him off the spot he settled in, dropped him back over the same cup and after he took hold gave him some food and he's stayed put again.

When he went wandering he crawled up the glass pretty high so I might lower my 250w DE pendant a little and give him some more light, he seems happy, but considering he went high when he moved, maybe he might like a little more. - Right now my light is like 20" off the surface.

When I first got him all I had for light was a 32w 50/50 PC. He started to bleach so I got the 250. Color came back a little, but I think I need some actinics as everything else is doing fine too, but just have pale colorings (except for my zoas, they have great color..) My current bulb is 10k.

I never feed mine... the clowns occasionally drag tiny bits of food into them, but never do I feed them. Buggers get big enough without my assistance!

Ive had mine for 4 months now... he doesnt really like the DIRECT light, and oddly enough he has settled ON TOP of a rock, as opposed to a creavace.. I know.. odd.

As for keeping them where you want them ... just place it where ud like it to stay, if it moves see if you can spin the rock it's on or somthing

Worked for me.

Overall the BTAs are pretty easily kept.

My false perc still hasn't taken to it. :?

Been six months and mine haven't taken to my LTA. From what I have read, ocellaris go for the carpet family members in the wild.

Mine moved around for awhile until it found a small cave. It has it's foot in the cave and retreats totally into it at night. During the day it is fully extended (neck is stretched about 4 inches) under 175mh. Color is great. I put it in the tank as one of the first things after it cycled and it's been doing great. About two months later I put in a pair of percula clowns. It took about a week for them to go for it but they are inseparable now.
One question - I seem to have more tentacles that are deformed on the ends - some corkscrew shaped, some T or Y shaped. I don't see the clowns picking at them. Also the tentacles are always fully extended of late. Never "Bubble" shaped. Any ideas?

Percula and occellaris will take on ritteri and carpet readily, all other anemone is hit or miss. Sometimes they would prefer LPS than bubble tips.

My recommendations is if you put one in..properly acclimate it..Its cool that GratefulDiver has had success up until this point but if you dont properly acclimate it, you might not be as lucky...This is my opinion on the matter...Hopefully it will take hold in a good spot but in the event it moves to a place of undesired location, dont try to physically move it. You may damage it...try placing a powerhead by it to agitate enough to move...
