I picked up these guys at $10 / coral today. Please don't inform me that some of the coral is dead and or dying... that much I know. My question is.. Are there any particular methods for reviving these corals? Also, I know the one is Flavia.. but what SPS is the other?

Thanks...

Flavia? Favia, maybe? Given good conditions, I have found that LPS corals will recover over time. I had a blastomussa that was reduced to a few nubs of tissue that made a complete recovery, but it took over a year. Patience is the key.

As far as the montipora goes, keep a close eye on it. If it slowly recedes from the base, my experience has been that it will not stop. The best bet is to frag it well into the healthy tissue and discard the base.

the montipora was laying on it's side half covered in sand at the LFS.. that side is all bleached out, but still appears to have polyps.. just not the dark brown like the rest. Would you guys frag it off now, or watch it for a few months first??

Me, I would break the monti into a few pieces and super glue them in different spots in your tank. If one takes off, it is a fast grower. It really is the most undemanding sps coral I have ever met. It would probably be fine left alone too.

First sps I ever kept. . .

What kind of lights do ya have?

Give them a recovery tank of its own. Good water flow, good light, and ample food (DT or others), some will recover back.

The dedicated tank is for the ample food part.

Running 250w 20K DE MH pendant

Wow that Montipora digitata should really do well for you then, I was just wondering if you had PCs or something. Someone gave me a very small frag of it a long time ago, and it just sat in my tank with PC lights, might have grown a little bit, but once I got MH (just 3 X 175w) it took off and grew like crazy.

wish i could do a dedicated tank :) I just dont have the extra space or equipment :) I should be able to spot feed DTs into the current passing over the polyps and feed it shouldn't I?
