Hamilton makes a 36” double halide fixture but it is expensive. If I were to purchase one which wattage bulb would work 175 or 250 my tank is 18” deep to the top of the sand and do I need some form of actinic light to go with the halide. I am just worried if I get 2-250W MH and 2 actinic VHO that it might be to much light if there is such a thing. Is their any type of coral that this wood be to much light for? I plan on keeping clams.

Clams will appreciate the wattage but 175's with flourescent supplement or just do the 250's in the Hamilton 14,000K bulb. Do they have an HQI option?

{whistles} - wow....

How are you with DIY?

I've seen some good 3' setups using a single 400 watt....

Not to good and that sucks in this hobby. Do you think that the 3' Protostar 2 - 250 Watt 10,000K HQI & 2 PC Compact FL 2-96W would be to much light that would make it about 11.5W per

Not really but they will typically need to be slowly acclimated to that much light. Once acclimated they'll do fine.
