I have a couple CPR overflow's that would of caused a disaster countless times if it was'nt for some homemade surface skimmers that were on my 180 as well.

the homemade ones are not that great either but seem to work better than the CPR's.

I may drain and drill the tank but am not sure if its temperd or not so would rather just get some really good hang ons if there are any.

any suggestions??

no hang on is the best. Call the tank manufacturer to find temper or not. Most tanks have only the bottom tempered so you drill the side although some have tempered sides . Look for the date sticer on the bottom of the tank

I have a LifeReef overflow box on my 65g. It's a little bulky on the inside tank box, but it works good. No overflows or anything. It's pritty simple and easy to use.

Coastal, I'm not sure of the tank manufacture since its a old tank, so cant call the manufacter, drilling would have to be a gamble.

Oceans, does the lifereef require a power head to start it like the CPR's?

I second the lifereef. I have used both their single and double overflows and have never had a problem.

No no powerhead. It is a U tube design and as long as you have enough flow through it air will never build up in it. It always restarts after a power outage also.

I'll throw my vote in for LifeReef, as well. I've used the double overflow, and it was just fantastic. You can't go wrong with them.

Peace,

Lifereefs and also the Amiracle line but only the ones with the U-tube. They also make a one piece deal like the CPR but I think it's a turd. Never had any problems with the others. :D
