Hello,
I have a aqua medic TF1000 with a RIO 2100. I have come to the understanding that the rio is a piece of junk, for lack of a better term... I have a 55 gal. tank in my Bedroom of all horrible places and cannot sleep to the noise of the RIO. Newer AM protein skimmers now use the ocean runner pump. Do any of you have any experience with this? I am wondering which pump is out on the market today that is the most effective, yet QUIETEST possible, money is not an object (within reason) my sleep is precious to me! thanks for the help - NoisyReefer

While admitting that the Rio is a piece of junk.... Is it the pump producing the noise or the actual action of the skimmer? My Remora pro is noisy, it had a Rio on it and I replaced it with a Mag. No difference in noise that I could hear.

Hope that helps some

Hello Noisyreefer and :welcome:

I'm not familar with your skimmer or pump, so I really can't offer much advice.

I am going to move this thread to the General forum so that you should get more replies. I will leave a shadow of the thread here in the DYI forum.

I'm not familar with the skimmer or pump either, however, would it be possible for you to place the skimmer on a timer and have it turn off for a couple of hours while you are trying to goto sleep, then have it turn back on?

The ocean runner pumps even with the air passing through them, are fairly quiet. I would't hesitate if I was in your shoes to switch out to an ocean runner 2700 or 3700.

(my tank is also in my bed room, and i've just recently gotten a new skimmer from toecutter, that uses a 3700. the air bubbles in my sump make far more noise then the pump does by far! (and my sump is fairly quiet)
