I have a 60 gallon tank that is intended for strictly fish, maybe a shroom or two. So about 4 months ago I let filling up the evaporated water in my tank (there's nothing in it at the time it has been curing for 8months) pass me up. When I did fill up my tank I took it from the tap to the tank only treating it with a de-chlorinator. About 3-4 weeks later I had a HUGH cyno outbreak. To control it I killed of the top layer of sand by scrubbing it in hot tap water then soaking it in fresh salt water. So it now appears that the out brake is back and my sand is dead. I am going to do a water change and replace it with RO water that has always fixed cyno out brakes in the past. But I am hoping I can re-seed my live sand? I was planning on taking 10lbs of sand from my 60 and putting it in a spare 10 gallon, then mixing in a pound of live sand from my lfs. In the 10 gallon will be a UGF with uplifts powered by air stones. Now will this re-seed all of that sand or will it just kill it. My idea of seed is seeding algae and bacteria.

I am taking my idea from another post I read here or somewhere else. I have searched every fourm I use and have been unable to find it. If anyone knows of any post or webpages with directions on how to do this please post them here also.

Thank you

It won't hurt it. I hope you learn your lesson about cutting corners, and will do a better job this time.

To reseed a sand bed, just make sure the seed sand is of good quality. In majority of the time if you only care about the bacteria, there should be no problem witht he quality of the sand.

For you ten gallon, you may want to look into the merit of UGF with live sand. Typically, if you have UGF, you use course sand that let the water goes thru. For live sand, you will need fine grain. Both seems to contradict each other.

Try RDO's Search function, and I am sure you will find a lot more than what I can tell you. Good luck.
