Since you can never do the stand perfectly flat I think that you'll always have some undue pressure on the bottom. And it may not be enough to break your tank, but it may help in combination with something else (a quake, a piece of LR falling, etc.). Why does it bother you anyway?

I built my in-wall stand - and it's perfectly flat and level. :)
No foam. It's also an acrylic tank, so I wasn't worried anyway.
I did however put foam under the glass 60 gallon sump underneath. It sits on the floor, so I couldn't count on it being level.

You can only make a perfectly level stand if you can cut an exactly 2" thread :).
