I should have the keys to another property by the end of the month. While I do not have the extra cash to outfit the whole house with a water purification system... I would like to install a RO or RO/DI unit underneath the kitchen sink.... and am a little confused about the 2

with an RO unit ... that would give you purified drinking water correct?

and with a RO/DI unit... is that the unit that leaves your water with a metalic/plastic tase? I know ive read that DI water is like that... so i assumed that DI water is from a RO/DI unit

I basically want drinking water, but will also be using it for my water changes

Ive been looking online at a couple of the more popular online fish equip places and am looing for a high quality unit that I can use for drinking water, and for my water changes. Right now we have a water purifier from our local water people ... "Hey Culligan Man" =) ... i was thinking about just getting another one of these... but would like a couple more opinions on the issue....or these Kent Marine units?

I have a system just like that from Aquatic Reef Systems.

I have the 4 stage with an additional DI cartiridge (My water is bad).

The RO feeds the DI filters and a 2 gallon Bladder tank. There is a relief valve that controls this. The Bladder tank empties to a special faucet on the sink top and MY DI water (fed only from the city water) comes out on a 5 ft line with a ball valve at the end.

with that type of unit... you can drink this water correct??
That was my major concern....
I was just going to get a RO .... but will spend the extra money for a nice RO/DI if it will get better Drinking water quality.... that way im killing 2 birds with 1 stone.... good drinking water and water for my aquarium

I dont know how this is all setup.. the DI water comes out of a seperate spout?

I drink the RO. The DI is for my tank water. I don't think you want to drink DI water.

Get an RO/DI with the drinking water kit.

http://airwaterice.com/product/DKDUAL

Do not drink RO/DI water. You will need to bypass the DI to get drinking water.

Thanks for that link..
that 6 stage looks like a great value... it looks to be a decent price as well. Ill have to read over t he descrption a little more.

Do you have this unit... how has it worked for you

dilema dilema =)
to RO or RO/DI =)

at only 74 bucks thats not that bad. I do not know the water quality at the new house... but is a DI part really needed?? Does it do that much more for these purifiers?

Depends on your source water I think.

Most RO filters will reduce the TDS(Total Disolved Solids) about 90%

In my case these are my TDS readings.
Tap - 350 PPM
After RO - 35 PPM
After 1st DI - 5 PPM
After 2nd DI - 0 PPM.

I do go through DI cartridges in about 3 months.

you can get recirculation systems for all units that will reuse the waste water but it will never be zero.. how could it be.

just to let you know almost all ro -> ro/di units are fairly similar in design. most parts and inserts are interchangeable and you can add parts from one system to another. so you can start basic and add pressure gauges, inline tds, recirc, flush kits, storage later on but your best to get what you want now as it's usually cheaper. you should really start with getting a tds meter and checking your source water to see where your at.
