So are these just glorified mushrooms? They are never for sale anywhere around here and I found a good deal online at least I think it is. They are 20 bucks for 2 ricordia of any color. They charge 16 bucks for shipping and gaurantee live arrival. Sounds pretty good to a reefer out here in the prarie.

Just wanted to get a feel from some experienced people on there Ric's. Are they easy to keep alive? do they multiply fast? I heard you can just slit them down the middle with a razor and you get two pretty quick? Any thoughts would help just don't want to make this to much of an impulse buy :?

No. They are the slowest growing mushroom IME.

Are they glorified mushrooms? Yah I guess so, they're in the same grouping as mushrooms corallimorphs, they tend to be much more colorful though. They don't spread like weeds like the regular. They aren't particularlly difficult to keep alive, but they're not as bulletproof as other mushrooms.

Here's an image from a particular clumping (some Yuma, some Flordia) just to give an idea of how colorful they can be

There are two flavors that I know of. Ricordea florida is the most common and then there's Ricordea yuma.

Some seem to multiply pretty good but others don't. For example, my Orange ricordea yuma propogate once a month or so and the Brighter Tangerine yuma ones take 6 months or more to reproduce. grrrr

They are definately glorified mushrooms but some are stunningly beautiful IMO.

Resurrected........

Do these have the same requirements for other 'mushroom' corals. As in same watermovement, lighting feeding etc.

Or are they too difficult for a noob to keep.... (1st reef tank, 1st SW tank, 20G and only has a sacrophtyon plus critters, a peppermint and 2 'nemos' - kids choice. Water Amm=0, Nitrites=0, Nitrates<10, PH=8.1, Phos < 0.05)...

Can I have one or two....... can I...

They are the best mushrooms, IMHO. I've never had difficulty in keeping them, husbandry-wise. Lower light and flow is where they've done best for me. They're wusses when it comes to coral warfare, though, so make sure they're not near anything aggressive.

Also, tongan rhodactis are very colorful, and are just as easy to keep.

Thanks. Too bad it got stung and killed by a common brown & green acanthastrea echinata.
