I just bought 2 24x90'(they may be 30ft wide) commercial greenhouse's from a produce farmer. They were already disassembled and everything.
Also aquired a 250,000 btu external ventless heater that is like new and 2 large exhaust fans with shutters.
I also already have a large exhaust fan and a 115,000 btu Taylor wood fired boiler that can heat the air or water remotely.
Obviously I cant use all the greenhouse space as a coral farm.I may be able to one day but I know its not logical to start.
How would you utilize the equitment that I have aquired and how big would you make the first coral prop greenhouse.
I live in southeastern NC so heating is a issue.
I have been told by the person I got the Taylor boiler from that a $500 dump truck load of logs(from a logger) will run 2 of these boilers and heat 2 1800 sqft or a little bigger homes all year with only 2 loads of wood each per day.
I have also seen them on tomato greenhouses before.
Ok the question is how do I put all this together into a awsome coral farm?
I intend to make 16 ft long 6 ft wide x 12" deep vats with EPDM 45 mil liners.
I think this is 380-400 gallons each. They will each have a Amp master 7500 return pump for current.
Now how many vats and how big of a greenhouse?
I am up in the air on the project now and have to create a business plan.
I never expected to luck up on my recent greenhouse purchase and was only gonna build a 20x30-40.I guess thats a benifit of living in rual farm country :D that and cheap land to put them.I got the 2 greenhouses exhuast fans shutters and Gas heater cheaper than just the 20x40 frame would cost new. I probably will set up a greenhouse for either tomatos or ornamental shrubs also.
Any input will be considered.
thanks

Wow! Must be exciting. Unless there is a significant cost savings in setting up more vats at one time, I'd start with a 2 or 3 vats and expand as needed. I'm not sure what you're going to do with all that other space. Those are might big greenhouses!

The pros of interconnecting all the vats is that it'll possess a larger combined volume and thus server as a better insulator against temp changes. The con is that if one vat is infected with a pathogen, you can't isolate it from the rest. It'll also be more expensive to buy seperate filtration (e.g. skimmer) for each system. Tough call. If you're heating/cooling system can maintain a reasonable temp year round, I'd recommend isolating each vat.

Mabey if you come get it.I dont care to mess with shipping.I probably will use the rest of the framing for a tomato or ornamental shrub greenhouse.
Something I have to think on.

Len, I should be able to make 4 vats from 2 10x40 rolls of EPDM.
thats 4 pumps & 1 large skimmer about 1600 gallons + 300 gallon sump.
Then design the greenhouse to hold atleast 8 vats in 2 systems but also be able to connect/disconnect the 2 systems to experiment.
Just a quick brain storm.I have'nt put it on paper yet. :D
The reason I would want them connected is so chilling would be easyier if I need it.
thanks for the input

I would love to isolate each, but am worried that they would heat faster.I should probably try that though and see..or tie them 2 together each system.
Also would need several dosing pumps if I isolate all them, I guess, for make up water.
