I have not set up a tank yet. I've bought a number of books and have been reading and reading as I want to keep these guys alive when I do get the tank up.
I am putting in a plenum (along with a skimmer and that extra wet/dry sump tank thingy).
My questions are this. Should I leave the plenum as an airpocket or should I force water up through it? What I read is it is better to either of these but not draw down (only for cleaning reasons). It says that if I leave it as an airpocket the gravel lower to the plenum creates a different zone then the gravel zone near the surface. If I force water through it would I not lose this benefit?
Also my tank is a 55 gal. but I will be getting/making a 240-250 gallon tank. Disregarding energy consumption can I buy a skimmer that I can use with the 55 until I switch to the 250?
