need some suggestions for what type of paint to use for my fish room. I went to the local hardware store and they suggested i just use regular semigloss. I saw bathroom paint with mildicide and was wondering if that was ok to use. Also saw epoxy but use only on concrete, stucco. Would like it to be waterproof., any suggestions would be helpful

What type of wall and woodwork are you painting, also what kind of paint is on it now - flat, s/g, varnish?

If it is all new and unpainted I would prime the sheetrock (walls & ceiling)with a acrylic primer. You could use a acrylic/latex eggshell or semi-gloss if you want to. If you want a little more protection you could use Zinsser Mildew Proof bath and kitchen paint. This comes in white and any pastel color and in satin finish. The semigloss may be out now. It does not outgas mildecide so it would be fine for a F/R.

The trim in the room if unpainted: prime with a wood primer either acrylic or alkyd oil. Sand, caulk, putty, then paint with either acrylic or alkyd oil satin or semi-gloss paint. If you use the Zinsser mildew proof you can paint the trim with this as well. If you are painting the wood stands the tanks sit on I would use Polyureathane (oil based) or spar varnish. If you want to paint it I would use Alkyd Oil paint.

If you want to use Epoxy I would use the Acrylic epoxy, a little easier to use and no fumes. I dont think epoxy would be needed though.
