Will be ordering a 72x20x20 to be used as a room divider (sitting on shelf with a 12x12 pilars on each side).

Planning on having two overflows flows (drilled for 1.5" drain, 1" return plus a additional 1" bulkhead for plumbing a future closed loop) laid out like this on each end:
__________
|\
| \
|o \
| |
| O |
| |
|o /
| /
|/________

Builder is strongly suggesting just a single box on one end but thinking the above would give better options for flow. Is a overflow on each end too much for a 72" tank?

It really depends on what you are putting in the tank. there are several differnt types of 72'' tanks with daul over flows ( meaning drilled on each side). for FOWLR you do not need so much flow, with corals they use flow, not a power flow but some flow. a directional flow from each side is good but not required.

you dont have to go with daul oevers you can go with one and later add a powerhead for flow on the coral. that works well too

IMO go for the dualies. Even with a FOWLR set up marine fish dig the flow. If you ever decide to step up to coral you're gonna kick yourself for not having the option. Powerheads are going to add heat and that's something you want to stay away from in a reef tank.

My self, I have a 180 gallon oceanic reef ready tank (72x24x24) with 2 of the new hyper super duper overflows they are putting out. I've got an Iwaki WMD40RLXT pumping 1200 gallons/hour out of 2 returns per overflow and it is being helped by a Mag-9 run inline out of the sump up over the back of the tank as additional returns. In additon to that I have a Mag-3 and a Mag-7 on closed loops up in the canopy. You can never have too much flow.

Get the dualies IMO.

It's not all that impressive really. I just moved out of a 75 o the 1st of January and most of my stuff is LPS. I've meant to get some pics for my friends and now I have another reason. I'll try and get a log up on the photos section this weekend.

If you have access to the pillars, do external overflows on each end. That way there won't be any blockage in the tank.
