Removing part of the top of a Tru Vu 180?

I am using a 180 acrylic tank as a sump and I am tired of the little tiny openings in the top of the tank.
Does anyone know how much of the top pane can be removed safely?

The only people that can answer that question with any degree of confidence is the manufacturer. Absent any good information, I wouldn't remove any of the top bracing. Also, in large part, the answer to your question will depend upon how high you plan to fill the sump or the maximum height the water can potentially reach in the sump.
