I just decided to fish out my old fluval 404 to potentially add extra filtration capabilities for my system (since for whatever reason I have a rather large nitrate problem that literally snuck up on me in a hurry). So I thought I'd give the Nitrate Sponge a try (its not really a sponge but a hard media zeolith? or some crap), I realize it'll take some weeks for the stuff to "kick into gear" but I figure what the hell, why not use that damn fluval.

So my question is, does the stuff really work? Or is it hype like it'll lower nitrates by a few parts per million at most.

And before any quips in.. yes water changes, less food, more skimming, more flow, yadda yadda.
