if you are going to do that yesa there will be a cycle and it will probably stress the hell out of everything if not kill it. The way to do it if you must is to cycle the sand in another tank then introduce it to the other. or go bare bottom

I did this for my girlfriend just today! Her 29 had crushed coral and after about 9 months it started to decline.Red slime, corals werent looking good.So cranked the heat in her house to about 77 and filled my large cooler which held the rock and coral.I saved as much of the tank water I could till it got near the bottom.Fish were in a bucket. The whole time I was running a hose in the aragonite sand outside. That stuff needs a good half hour to rinse clean.I filled the bucket with water and tossed in a heater. The whole process took about 2 hours and I even sprayed the back glass black! Will anything die ?Maybe, but the system is RIGHT now and will be better than ever.
