this may sound like a very stupid question to some of you but keep in mind im still new to this hobby.
is it necessary to feed your anemone's on a regular basis? today was the first day i bought some freeze dried shrimp and fed it to my one anenome and he scarfed it down. should i be feeding them on a regular basis?

also i gave some to my serpant star. man he killed that thing. the center of this body got real big too. i guess he's digesting????

Depending on the size of the anomone, depends on what you feed it. i feed mine solid food twice a week and filter feed three times a week.
Mine will eat three silversides at a time, easily. Maybe even more. When it is opened it is about 20'' across.

The anemone is made up of mostly water. It will contract and squeeze out water, then expand and fill with water. while it does this it takes in nutrients from the water and feeds off of them.
I just hand my anemone three silversides

I think it's a personal preference.

Not if you are keeping a more sensitive spieces, H. Malu does not do well with no feedings where a LTA or even BTA MAY be ok with no direct feeding. I perfer to feed my anemones chopped silversides, or krill atleast once a week every 3 days is better.

I noticed the more I feed mine (E.quadricolor) the more they split. My one has turned into six now.

Which is why I included E. quadricolor on the may be ok with no direct feedings. I had one turn to 12 over a year or so, so slowly let up the feedings to once a week or less with that anemone. Of course if I dont feed it at all it slowly shrinks down and losses color but still lives, just not healthy.

I noticed the inclusion. The hard part is getting rid of them, I hate just giving them away to my LFS, unfortunately they dont want to trade.
