I have another quick question. I have a reef tank, currently I have 7 fish, brain coral, candy cane coral, rose leather coral, mushrooms, pollyps, a green tip anenomne, sand sifting star, lobster, scallop, and a whole bunch of snails in my tank. my lighting schedule has been as follows for the past 5 months:
blue actinic lights on at 4pm
all lights on at 5pm
all lights except blues off at 3am
blue light actinic off at 4am
my candy cane coral has pretty much lost it's color and I recently had a colt coral die. I constantly get different advice from each store i go to, most of the time completely the opposite of each other. I was going by the first schedule because it was told to me that all the lights need to be off for at least half of the day for the fish to have some rest time. yesterday i told this to someone and they laughed and said the actinic should be on all of the time and only the other lights on for 12 hours.
I tried this last night and by this morning, most of my fish are still not sleeping, is this because they are not used to it or is it because they should have the light off and will this effect the corals by turning off the light part of the day. I do have a very small moon light which is part of my New Power Compact lights, which was always on, but it only lights very little in the tank.
Should I be leaving my actinic light on all of the time, will it hurt my fish and will hurt my corals not to do it. I know this sounds ridiculous but ,y fish looked tired today.
